Iceland

Iceland, the land of fire and ice, was my very first solo trip abroad, and it turned out to be the perfect starting point for my solo adventure. You might wonder, why Iceland? Well, it began with the cheapest plane ticket I could find into the EU, but it ended up being the best decision ever.

It's a haven for solo travelers – incredibly safe, English-friendly, and brimming with jaw-dropping natural beauty. The land of geysers, waterfalls, and the Northern Lights, Iceland's landscapes are a solo explorer's dream. The initial budget-friendly choice became a priceless adventure I'll cherish forever. Give Iceland a shot – it might just be the spark that ignites a lifelong love for solo travel, just like it did for me.

Guatemala

Guatemala is not just an incredible destination for first-time solo travelers; it's also a heartwarming journey back to the joy of adventure! With its lush jungles, colorful markets, and ancient ruins, this vibrant country is an ideal choice for your first solo trip. It's one of my favorite places for a reason—Guatemala's warmth, both in climate and the welcoming spirit of its people, can heal and inspire like no other. It's where I found your love for travel again and changed my perspective on Central America for the better. For those embarking on their first solo adventure, Guatemala is not just a destination; it's a place of transformation where you can embrace the world with open arms, just like it did for me.

If you happen to find yourself in San Marcos, Lake Atitlan, be sure to stay at Hostel del Lago. Tell the staff I said hello.

Spain

Spain is like a welcoming hug for first-time solo travelers! With its friendly locals, tapas culture perfect for mingling, and cities filled with art, history, and, of course, incredible food, Spain is an adventurer's dream. You can get lost in the enchanting alleyways of Barcelona, soak in the sun on the beaches of the Costa del Sol, or dance the night away in Ibiza. The country's well-developed infrastructure, reliable public transportation, and availability of English-speaking services provide peace of mind for those new to solo adventures. Spain offers a perfect blend of comfort and excitement for solo travelers taking their first step into the world of exploration. Plus, the Spanish love to chat, so you'll make friends faster than you can say "¡Hola!"

Netherlands

The Netherlands, or as some like to say, "the land of windmills, tulips, and friendly folks," is an ideal choice for your first solo adventure. Its small size makes it compact and easy to explore, perfect for solo travelers. You can hop on a bicycle, and in no time, you'll find yourself gliding through picturesque canals, quaint towns, and stunning tulip fields. The Dutch are renowned for their openness and friendliness, which means you'll feel right at home as a solo traveler. Striking up a conversation with a local at a cozy canal-side cafe is as easy as riding a bike.

Thailand

Thailand, the Land of Smiles, is hands down one of the best places for your inaugural solo adventure. If you have never traveled abroad, expect a bit of a culture shock at first. Once it has passed, you'll be in a paradise for travel lovers and solo adventurers. Thai people are some of the friendliest you'll ever meet. You'll be greeted with warm smiles, and that's just the beginning of your journey filled with kindness and hospitality. Thailand is also incredibly affordable, making it budget-friendly, too. The range of activities and the ease of meeting fellow travelers make Thailand an unforgettable choice for your first solo adventure.

Ireland

Ireland, the land of leprechauns, lush landscapes, and legendary craic (that's Irish for fun), is an absolute gem for your first solo adventure. It's not just a country; it's an experience that I can personally vouch for since Ireland was my very first extended travel stay, where I embarked on my first overseas job. As soon as you set foot on this emerald isle, you'll be greeted with smiles and an invitation to join in the fun. The pubs, in particular, are your best friends here, where the lively atmosphere and live traditional music provide the perfect backdrop to make new friends. The compact size of the country means you can easily hop from one charming town to another, making it the ideal place to kickstart your adventure. Raise a pint of Guinness, and get ready for a journey that'll fill your heart with joy and your passport with stories to tell.

Portugal

Portugal, the sun-kissed jewel of Europe, is a fantastic choice for your very first solo adventure. Portuguese people are some of the friendliest folks you'll ever meet. They'll welcome you with open arms, whether you're strolling through the cobbled streets of Lisbon, savoring a pastel de nata, or catching some rays on the Algarve coast. It's like one big, warm hug; as a solo traveler, that's something special. Portugal is also incredibly affordable, especially for Western Europe, making it perfect for those on a budget. Plus, the country's compact size makes it easy to get around, so you can hop from charming town to charming town, discovering new experiences at every turn.

United States

The good ol' USA is an incredible choice for your first solo adventure, especially if it's your home sweet home! This vast and diverse country has so much to offer that it's practically a world of its own. If the idea of jetting off to a foreign land isn't quite your cup of tea, the United States gives you the freedom to experience a wide range of cultures, landscapes, and lifestyles right here at home. Not only is the USA enormous, but it's packed with a treasure trove of attractions, from the bustling streets of New York City to the serene beauty of national parks. And hey, if you're not ready to cross state lines, consider journeying to a state you've yet to go before or even hopping to the opposite coast. If you are planning to visit California, be sure to stay at the various ITH Hostels- the ideal home away from home for solo travelers.
